Stuck In A Rut?
One of my favourite sayings is, “Don’t be a dinosaur, embrace evolution.” To me this means don’t get stuck in patterns that no longer suit your life, but rather, you need to change with the times and keep creating new and better futures for yourself and others around you.
Have you ever coasted in life for a while and then woken up one day and noticed that you have an “out of sync” feeling? Nothing seems right and everything needs to change?
For example, your spouse seems remote and out of communication? The kids seem to be going their own way and you’re not sure where that is? At work, you notice that you have been passed over yet again for a promotion? Or you seem to be in a rut of doing the same old, same old at home every week with no new shots of excitement? Haven’t been anywhere fun for a while? Your clothing wardrobe is old and stale and uninteresting? You call your family members but they are leading boring lives too? (Wow, did I miss anything?)
The point I am making here is that perhaps you are riding along on an old “life strategy” and you need to freshen it up. Nothing stays the same forever! But don’t go crazy, you need to embrace evolution, not cause a revolution and upset your whole life. Small adjustments and changes introduced bit by bit can be a lot more productive than trying to fix everything in a whirlwind fashion.
The first step would be to notice that there is a need for change and the second step is deciding that you ARE going to change. Only you can make that decision as it is your life. You have to demand of yourself to respond to the situation and decide that it CAN be beaten.
How you are going to solve the situation is the next step. So sit down with yourself first and write down each aspect of your life (as above) and then write down a statement of what needs to change beside each one.
Next, you need to work out what to do about each situation you want to change. You might need some ideas and out-of-the-box thinking. The internet is always a potential resource. Try searching “put some excitement into my life” and read up for a while and get some inspiration. Talk to your spouse. Talk to your kids. Talk to your boss. Get their thoughts on the problems and the solutions. You might be surprised to find out that they were thinking the same thoughts as you and are totally on the same page and wanting to work out solutions together.
Don’t reject any ideas from any of the above. Just explore them fully and make notes. Ultimately, you will have to sit back and be the judge as to what to do in each area, and how the solutions are going to be implemented. Work out a strategy in writing for each thing. Then get started and move step by step till done.
Taking the matters head on is going to make you a lot happier than letting them fester in your mind for days and weeks and months. Being a victim of anything is an unpleasant way to live life.
Take control for true happiness in life!
